Frequently Asked Questions
What are the different practice modes?
There are 4 modes: First Position (frets 0-4 on all strings), First Position Extended (First Position plus high E string through 12 or 19 frets), All Positions (every note across the entire fretboard), and Per-String (select specific strings and custom fret ranges for targeted practice). Each mode focuses on different areas of the fretboard.
How do I use the flash cards?
Tap a card to flip between the staff notation (front) and fretboard position (back). The front shows the note on the musical staff. Tap the play button to hear the note with realistic Spanish classical guitar sound. The back shows where to play the note on the fretboard. Swipe right for "Got it" or left for "Review" to mark your progress.
How does the Per-String mode work?
Per-String mode lets you practice specific strings with custom fret ranges. You can select multiple strings (1-6) and set a custom fret range with a minimum of 4 frets (e.g., frets 0-4, 3-8, etc.). This is perfect for focused practice on specific areas of the fretboard.
How does the smart review system work?
Cards you mark as "Review" are added to a separate review pile. After completing the main session, you can choose to practice just the review cards. The app also tracks your accuracy per note in the Statistics section, helping you identify which notes need more practice.
Can I customize the fretboard display?
Yes! In Settings, you can toggle between 12 or 19 frets, enable left-handed mode (mirrors the fretboard), and choose whether to show octave numbers (e.g., "E4" vs "E"). You can also set how many cards per session (10, 20, or all).
What are the accidental options?
In Settings → Practice → Accidentals, you can choose: None (natural notes only, no sharps/flats), Sharps (♯ only), Flats (♭ only), or Both (includes both sharp and flat versions of each accidental). This helps you learn enharmonic equivalents like F♯ and G♭.
What is the Show Octave Number setting?
This setting (in Settings → Practice) controls whether note names show the octave number. When OFF (default), you see "E" or "F♯". When ON, you see "E4" or "F♯5". Choose based on your learning preference and whether you need to distinguish between octaves.
How do daily reminders work?
Go to Settings → Reminders to enable practice reminders. You can set a custom time and choose which days of the week to receive notifications. This helps you build a consistent practice habit.
Why isn't the audio playing?
First, check that "Enable Note Playback" is ON in Settings → Audio. Choose whether notes play automatically when you flip the card ("Play Note on Flip") or use the play button on the front of each card. Also ensure your device volume is turned up and not in silent mode. The app uses a Spanish classical guitar SoundFont for authentic sound.
How do I track my progress?
Go to Settings → Statistics to view: Total Sessions completed, Overall Accuracy percentage, and Current Streak (consecutive days practiced). The app also tracks accuracy per note in the note statistics, helping you see which specific notes you struggle with most.
Can I reset my progress?
Yes, go to Settings → Statistics → Reset Progress. This will permanently delete all your streak data, session history, and note statistics. This action cannot be undone, so use carefully.

Music Theory Reference
Standard Guitar Tuning
- String 6 (Low E): E2
- String 5 (A): A2
- String 4 (D): D3
- String 3 (G): G3
- String 2 (B): B3

Understanding Accidentals
The app includes sharps (♯) and flats (♭). When you select "Both" in settings, the app will show both enharmonic equivalents (e.g., F♯ and G♭ as separate cards). This helps you learn that F♯ and G♭ are the same pitch but written differently depending on musical context.
Practice Mode Details
- First Position: Frets 0-4 on all strings - the foundation of classical guitar technique
- First Position Extended: First Position + high E string through your selected fret range (12 or 19)
- All Positions: Every note across all strings up to your selected fret range (12 or 19)
- Per-String: Custom practice - select 1-6 strings and set a custom fret range (minimum 4 frets)
Understanding Octave Numbers
Octave numbers indicate which octave a note belongs to (e.g., E4 is the open high E string, while E2 is the open low E string). You can toggle whether to show octave numbers in Settings → Practice → Show Octave Number.
